Kings County Competitors brought home 40 medals from the Provincial Wrestling Championships at Montague Regional High School last weekend. More than 400 students competed from across the province, with local students from Montague Consolidated, Vernon River Consolidated, Belfast Consolidated, Southern Kings Consolidated, and Montague High School. Montague placed first overall for Novice Boys. Leading with 47 points, twice as many points as second place Tignish. The 81-year old inventor weaves through his garage, filled with gadgets, saws and a car awaiting repair, to a little room in the back. Father Gerard Chaisson celebrated a quarter century in the priesthood by lacing up for a marathon through the streets of Paris earlier this month. Fr Chaisson is parish priest of Bishop MacEachern Pastoral Unit which includes St Mary’s in Montague, St Michael’s in Iona and St Paul’s in Sturgeon. He lives in Montague. The idea came up when he was talking to a Parisian friend and colleague, Father Pierre Boyer, last year. PEI Health Board’s newest member, Peter Doucette, says his heart is in Kings County but his focus is on providing the best quality of health care across all PEI. Lisa Hurd performed her one woman show, Dance Like a Butterfly, to an audience of 100 volunteers at the 17th annual Souris and Area Volunteer Recognition Event at St Mary’s Hall last Thursday evening. Along with the play, the evening had door prizes as well as dessert and refreshments. The melancholy, but humorous, play tells the tale of an 85-year old woman who is gradually losing her independence. Health PEI, which organized the event, estimates eastern Kings has 350 volunteers. Memorial United Church in Murray River will host several workshops and a concert by Ron Klusmeier. This is Mr Klusmeier’s final year of touring after 40 years and he is only doing two tours on PEI. On May 3, Mr Klusmeier will offer two workshops from 3pm to 5pm.
