Truro Banquet organizer Kaitlyn Wesley was all smiles when Atlantic Post Calls talked to her last week and she should be, as interest in the big Horse Owners Awards night, set for March 16th is spreading throughout the Maritime harness racing community. The Best Western Glengarry always puts on a great dinner and with the legendary Bill O’Donnell in town as Guest Speaker, the night should be very entertaining.
Now retired from active driving but active and working on behalf of horsemen through COSA, O’Donnell drove many of the great horses of his era and I doubt the Atlantic Post Calls would have enough space to spend a few lines on all of them. Nihilator alone, the first horse to beat 1:50, is worth a full page of print and I am certain horsemen in attendance will ask O’Donnell about many of the others. O’Donnell is a natural born story teller, on a par with NHL’s Dennis Hull, so if you don’t have a ticket now, I’d suggest calling Kaitlyn to purchase your ticket before it’s too late. Last year’s Truro Awards night attracted 175 horsemen and fans and I am certain this year, the 200 seat barrier will be broken.
