RCMP investigating foriegn object found in potato

A needle or pin was found in a Russet potato from a 15-pound bag purchased at Atlantic Superstore in Montague.

The brand is Farmer’s Market, and store manager, Brian Barry said there are no longer any on the store's shelves.

The object was reported to RCMP on May 18 by the customer who purchased the potatoes.

RCMP Sergeant Leanne Butler said they cannot confirm whether or not the incident is linked to previous incidents of needles found in PEI potatoes last year.

“We aren’t sure yet if it is a broken needle or a pin,” Sgt Butler said.

In the photo released by RCMP, the object doesn't appear to be complete.

RCMP or Loblaws can’t confirm at this time where the potatoes were grown or packaged.

Anyone who finds any foreign object in a potato to refrain from throwing out the potato, the object or the bag and any tags related to the product. Please contact your local police so the potatoes and related items can be passed along to the investigators.
