Corrugated plastic signs, pop bottles, and roofing adhesive were apparently the recipe for success at the third annual River Run Flotilla Saturday at Morell River. Participants were invited to make their own boats out of whatever they could conjure and race against other home-made crafts. First place winners Brodie Burke of St Peter's and Mark Kelly of Morell joined forces to make their boat in just four hours. This was their first time entering the competition, part of the greater Morell River Run Festival, which they didn’t expect to win. “We didn’t expect to make it off the shore!” Mr Burke said laughing. Second place went to Bruce Smith of Redhead Road, and third place was won by mother-daughter team Siena, 15, and Diana Morris of Uxbridge, Ontario. Heather Jordan Ross photo

Redhead Road resident Bruce Smith pedalled his way into second place at the River Run Flotilla in Morelly. Mr Smith’s boat was made from Mussle King plastic boxes, wood, and a lot of duct tape.
