Claudia Gallant has resigned from Alberton Town Council effective June 30.

Ms Gallant made the announcement at the council meeting of June 10.

“I’m really sorry it’s been a short stint, but our home sold, so we’re moving out of the town limits. As of June 30, I wish you all the very best.”

Councillor Gallant previously served on town council from 2009 to 2014.

A by-election will be held to fill her seat. That election will happen sometime within six months.

David Gordon, mayor of Alberton, said Ms Gallant has served council very well.

“I get along great with Claudia,” he said. “She’s a good councillor and she will be missed.”

Mr Gordon said he’ll be checking with Elections PEI about what the process for the by-election will be.

“I wish Claudia all the best in her future,” he concluded. “If she happens to come back into town and feels she needs to put her name back in at council, we would love to have her.”
