A fire that destroyed a home in Vernon Bridge on Monday morning has displaced an adult couple and a child, according to the Red Cross.

There were no serious injuries but a man was treated briefly in hospital before being released, the humanitarian relief organization said in a news release.

The fire broke out on Riverview Crescent just off the Trans-Canada Highway around 8 am.

Red Cross volunteers are assisting the family with emergency lodging and other basic needs such as clothing and food.

Firefighters from the Vernon River and Cross Roads Fire Departments responded to the blaze, along with the RCMP and Island EMS.

The provincial fire marshal's office has not yet ruled on the cause.
