Funding announcement May 26, 2021 - upgrades to the Women’s unit of the Provincial Correctional Centre in Miltonvale Park.

"As a society, we’ve learned that what men and women need are not always the same. Research has shown that female offenders’ risks and needs are unique and different from men.

Women in custody have often experienced trauma and been victims of crime. They require privacy and safety to heal.

Female offenders deserve their own dedicated space with programs and services that will support their rehabilitation and their transition back into society.

The main goal of any correctional centre is obvious – to help offenders rehabilitate so that they can go safely back to their community. We want offenders to serve their time, but we also want them to have opportunities to grow, reflect and make a plan for themselves once they leave.

All of the elements that have gone into the design and build of this new facility is with female offenders and their needs in mind."

- Justice and Public Safety Minister Bloyce Thompson:
